Are they fatigued?
The bearings in roller furlers cause problems. The mesh wears through and the result is more work for you. Apart from the extra work you will have to do to tack for example, you will also
loose sail shape and boat speed. All because the roller furler is fatigued. They are made from really strong, durable materials, Delrin or Torlon are normal. However those bearing are working all the time you are sailing your head sail.
Getting it fixed!
Of course you'd prefer to sit back and let the gearing take the strain for you in the cockpit. Tacking is so much easier! That's why you bought the system after all!
In fully working order, this bit of kit is a joy
But now the days of effortless tacking are gone. For now you are putting in more work than if the system wasn't there! Back to the days of manual tacking?
