Rope Splicing

There is a series of steps to follow in order for rope splicing to be successful
Tools
- Having the right tools: Stanley knife, wooden board for cutting on, tape, a flame lighter, binding cord
- Using tape mark off six inches from the frayed end of the rope, do this for both ends you are looking to join together
- Now tape each strand of rope, and singe any frayed bits with the lighter
- Now you should have the two ends of line ready to go

Notice the marlin spike, helping with the splicing
- So weave the strands together as tightly as you can
- It's a fiddly job, but with practice you will get a snug, strong fit
- If necessary, tape the strands you have worked on to stop them getting in the way
- When you've finished, whip the whole repair with binding cord
Best Practice
It is best to practice splicing before repairing a load bearing line. A splice is only as strong as your ability to weave those strands together.
It is a temporary solution and the rope should be replaced ASAP.
