Boat First Aid Kit - Get On A Course

<<>>When you buy your boat first aid kit - read the manual provided! Go on a first aid course, not just for your sailing trips but for daily life. Example: If your friend has put his hand through a pane of glass and there is a shard stuck in his arm do you pull it out or keep it in? The answer is keep it in and wrap a dressing round it to stem the flow, elevate arm above the height of his heart.

Green Box With Key Equipment

If you knew the answer - well done! If not then get in touch with your emergency services, they will want to help get you on a course.

There are different sizes of equipment on the market. Basically the further offshore you are the more kit you buy. Personally i like having lots of glazes, bandages and antiseptic. I'd rather have a choice of dressing than be limited to a size that doesn't do the job properly.

List Of Basic Level Requirements

* Adhesive plastic bandages

* Absorbent gauze compress

* Triangular sling/bandage

* Gauze dressing pads

* Antiseptic cleansing wipes

* Adhesive tape

* Exam quality gloves

* Burn relief packs

* Instant cold compress

* First Aid Guide booklet

So get on a course, make sure your crew have done one too! Imagine the trauma of not being able to help a friend in their hour of need.
