<<>> A different name that's all. As these ropes serve the same purposes, it is advisable to carry a few spairs for jobs which arise. having spair ropes of different grades for different uses is all part of seamanship.

In order not to confuse different ropes for different jobs, they are color coded. if a line is lost of the side or cut loose and a splice is out of the question, you need to be able to replace it quickly. Depending on the circumstances of lose, it maybe dangerous to carry on with out that particular line. Sometimes safety is the reason a rope is cut, if it's going to infringe the rudder, then cut it!
